The Background of the Tragedy
The incident occurred when software engineer Yuvraj Mehta drowned after his car fell into a water-filled pit at a construction site in Noida Sector-150. Reports indicated that the pit, dug for a basement, had accumulated approximately 30 feet of water. The excavation work on the plot, which was intended for a basement, had reportedly been halted midway for two years.
Ongoing Investigation and Accusations
The Noida Authority had initially sold the plot to Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited in 2014. Subsequently, Lotus Greens sold the land to MJ Vishtaton Planners Private Limited in 2020. The police have registered a case under the Environment Protection Water Pollution Prevention Act, emphasizing the serious nature of the alleged negligence. The investigation continues to uncover all responsible parties in this tragic event.
