Travelers going from Delhi to Haryana for business in Panipat or to enjoy parathas in Murthal often face heavy traffic jams on the highway. To solve this major issue, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has prepared a detailed plan that will completely change the travel experience between Delhi and Haryana. The corporation has finalized the Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for two new corridors under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
Which new routes are being planned?
The NCRTC has focused on two major corridors to decongest the National Highways. The first one is the Delhi-Panipat-Karnal corridor, which will be about 136 kilometers long. This route includes a 36-kilometer stretch in Delhi and a 100-kilometer stretch in Haryana. The second corridor is the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB-Bawal route, spanning 102 kilometers. These projects have received necessary approvals from the state government and are moving towards final construction phases.
How much time will passengers save?
Once the Namo Bharat trains start running on these tracks, the travel time will drop significantly. A journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Karnal, which currently takes hours due to traffic, will be completed in just 90 minutes. Similarly, reaching Murthal from Kashmere Gate will take only 30 minutes. The trains are designed to run at a speed of 160 to 180 km/h, making inter-city travel extremely fast.
What is the cost and timeline?
The estimated cost for the Delhi-Bawal corridor is around ₹35,000 crore, while the Delhi-Panipat-Karnal section is expected to cost approximately ₹33,000 to ₹34,740 crore. The Union Ministry approved the construction of the Delhi-Bawal extension on January 22, 2026. Construction is likely to begin by August 2026.
