The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Jawed Ahmed Siddiqui, the Chairman of Al-Falah University, in connection with a case involving forgery and financial irregularities. This action was taken based on two separate FIRs lodged by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Senior officials confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, stating that the investigation is focused on serious administrative lapses and fraud.
Police Custody and Court Proceedings
After his arrest, Jawed Ahmed Siddiqui was produced before the Saket Court in Delhi. The court has granted the Crime Branch a 4-day police remand to interrogate him further regarding the alleged scams. The police are looking into the manipulation of records and the creation of fake documents used to run the institution.
This legal trouble adds to existing pressure from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED had previously filed a chargesheet against Siddiqui and the Al-Falah Charitable Trust on January 16, 2026, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Saket Court has listed the hearing for the ED’s chargesheet for February 13, 2026.
Connection to Red Fort Blast and Terror Funding
The university came under the radar of security agencies following the car blast near Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which resulted in 13 deaths. Investigations revealed that Dr. Omar Nabi, a suspect involved in the blast, was working at Al-Falah University. Other individuals like Dr. Muzammil Shakil and Dr. Shaheen Shahid were also linked to the institution, leading agencies to suspect a “white-collar” terror network.
The UGC complaint specifically pointed out that the university falsely claimed to have accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Following these revelations, the university website was taken offline in November 2025, and the ED has provisionally attached several properties belonging to the university.
