A shocking incident took place in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area early Wednesday morning where a man was brutally beaten for doing the right thing. A transporter named Mukesh was attacked by four intoxicated youths when he tried to stop them from harassing a woman on the road. The police acted swiftly after the event and have arrested all four accused involved in this case. The victim is currently fighting for his life at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

How did the incident happen on IGNOU Road?

The incident occurred between 3:45 AM and 4:00 AM near Anupam Apartment on IGNOU Road. A 27-year-old woman working in an IT firm was waiting for her cab to go to her morning shift. Four men riding on two scooters approached the spot and started passing lewd comments at her.

Mukesh, a resident of Sangam Vihar who runs a transport business, was present nearby and witnessed the harassment. He immediately objected to their behavior and tried to protect the woman. This angered the four youths, who then attacked him collectively. Reports state that they used bricks and stones to beat him even after he fell unconscious. The woman showed courage and recorded a video of this assault on her mobile phone, which became key evidence.

Who are the accused and what action has Police taken?

The police reached the spot about 45 minutes after the initial PCR call was made. Based on the video evidence provided by the woman and local CCTV footage, officials arrested all four accused within three hours of the crime. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vishal Rawat, Jatin, Sonu, and Vivek. All of them are residents of Sangam Vihar.

An FIR (No. 113/26) has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include sections for attempt to commit culpable homicide, outraging the modesty of a woman, and wrongful restraint. A local court has already sent the accused to judicial custody. Meanwhile, doctors at AIIMS Trauma Centre have described Mukesh’s condition as critical due to the severity of the injuries sustained from the stone attack.
