A 13-year-old girl in Faridabad took a major step and ran away from her home recently. The minor was reportedly distressed due to the behavior of her stepmother. The police and Childline teams found her wandering alone at the Delhi-Faridabad border area. The authorities immediately took her into custody for safety and started an investigation into the matter.
Why did the girl leave her home?
The girl told the officials that her stepmother used to harass her physically and mentally. She mentioned that she was forced to do heavy household chores and was beaten up regularly at home. Due to this constant trouble and fear, she decided to leave the house. When the police found her, she clearly refused to go back to her parents because she was scared of the treatment she received.
What action has been taken by authorities?
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit along with Dial 112 and Childline played a major role in rescuing the child from the border. After her rescue, she was presented before the Child Welfare Committee for further proceedings. Currently, the girl has been shifted to a shelter home for her safety and care. The father and stepmother were called to appear before the committee to answer regarding this serious matter.
