A 13-year-old girl ran away from her home in Faridabad after being fed up with the behavior of her stepmother. The minor was found wandering near the Delhi-Faridabad border by the authorities. A joint team of Dial 112, Childline, and the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit spotted the girl and took her into safe custody.
Why did the girl leave her house?
When the officials spoke to the teenager, she revealed the difficult conditions she was living in. She stated that her stepmother used to beat her up and force her to do all the domestic work. Unable to bear the harassment any longer, she decided to flee from her home. Even after being rescued, she firmly refused to go back to her parents.
What action has been taken?
Considering the girl’s statement and her refusal to return home, the authorities have shifted her to a shelter home for her safety. The matter was reported to the Child Welfare Committee. The girl’s father and stepmother were summoned to appear before the committee to answer regarding the allegations made by the child.
