A tragic accident happened at the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad this Saturday evening. A ride known as the ‘Tsunami Swing’ suddenly broke down in the amusement zone, injuring 13 people. The injured were quickly taken to private hospitals like Escorts for treatment. During the chaos and rescue operation, Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad was severely hurt and sadly passed away later in the hospital.
Details of the Incident and Rescue Operations
The incident occurred on February 7, 2026, causing panic among the visitors at the fairground. District Deputy Commissioner Ayush Singh and the Police Commissioner reached the site immediately to manage the situation. The police have now barricaded the accident spot and the swing area has been temporarily closed for visitors. Before this incident, a part of Gate Number 2 at the food court had also fallen earlier in the day due to strong winds, injuring one person. An official inquiry has been ordered to check if safety standards were ignored by the operators.
Surajkund Mela Timing and Visitor Information
The fair started on January 31 and is scheduled to continue until February 15, 2026. The administration has now ordered a re-check of fitness certificates for all rides to ensure public safety. Visitors can enter the mela from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM. To manage the rush, heavy vehicles are not allowed near Surajkund from 7 AM to 12 AM.
