Travelers going from Bihar to Delhi and Lucknow will soon find their journey much smoother. The long-awaited link road connecting Buxar to the Purvanchal Expressway is set to open by the middle of 2026. This development comes as a major relief for daily commuters and transporters who face heavy traffic on current routes.

When will the new link road be operational?

According to the latest updates from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Buxar-Haidariya link road is expected to start functioning by June or July 2026. The construction teams are working to finish the remaining tasks quickly. The complete 134 km long Greenfield corridor, which goes from Ghazipur to Manjhi Ghat, is targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

Currently, about 85% of the physical work on the project is already done. There were some delays earlier due to flooding and shortage of soil during the monsoon season near the Ganga river belt. Officials are now confident about meeting the upcoming deadlines.

How much time will this route save for travelers?

The new connection will significantly reduce travel fatigue. Once the link connects Buxar to the main expressway, the travel time to cities like Delhi, Lucknow, and Agra will decrease by approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. The total travel distance is expected to go down by 17 to 20 kilometers.

This is a 4-lane highway designed with a speed limit of 100 kmph. To ensure safety, an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is being installed. This system includes CCTV cameras and sensors that will automatically alert the control room in case of any accident or emergency on the road.

Key project details and connectivity

The entire Greenfield corridor project has a total budget of around ₹5,300 crore. For better connectivity, an interchange has been constructed near Karimuddinpur in Ghazipur. This specific point allows vehicles coming from Buxar to climb directly onto the Purvanchal Expressway without hassle.

Additionally, a new three-lane bridge is being built over the Ganga river in Buxar. This bridge is specifically designed to handle heavy vehicles and improve the flow of traffic between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The project is being managed by NHAI Gorakhpur region.
