Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 500 new electric buses at Ramlila Maidan this Sunday. This event marked the completion of the first year of the BJP government in the capital. Along with the city buses, the Chief Minister also started a new interstate electric bus service connecting Delhi to Panipat to improve regional travel.
New Bus Fleet and Panipat Route Details
With the addition of these 500 buses, the total number of electric buses in Delhi has reached 4,000. This is the highest number of electric buses in any state across India. The government has set a target to increase this fleet to 14,000 buses by the year 2028. The new Delhi-Panipat route is a significant step as it is the first interstate service launched in the last 18 years.
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh mentioned that these buses will help in reducing pollution and providing better connectivity. MLA Anil Goyal also highlighted the environmental benefits of shifting to an electric fleet during the launch event.
Ticket Prices and Facilities for Commuters
The government has announced specific fares for the new electric double-decker tourist circuit. While normal travel follows standard DTC rates, the tourist service has fixed prices. Commuters will also continue to get existing benefits like the Pink Card for women.
- Double-Decker Tourist Fare: ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children (ages 6–12).
- Women’s Safety: Free travel provision through Pink Cards continues on these buses.
- Payment Mode: National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) are fully integrated for payments.
- New Policy: A new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy will be introduced shortly for the city.
