A scary incident took place at Mumbai Airport where two passenger planes belonging to Air India and IndiGo collided on the ground. The accident happened when the aircraft were moving on the taxiway and their wingtips touched each other. Airport authorities confirmed that there was no fire or major crash, and all passengers inside both planes remained safe without any injuries.
How did the collision happen on the runway?
The incident occurred around 7:30 PM when Air India flight AI2732 was preparing to take off for Coimbatore. At the same time, IndiGo flight 6E791 had just arrived from Hyderabad and was taxiing towards the parking bay. While moving past each other near the taxiway, the right wingtips of both aircraft made contact. The pilots immediately stopped the planes and alerted the ground control team about the impact.
What action is being taken now?
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has grounded both aircraft and started a detailed investigation into the matter. Officials are checking if there was a coordination error between the pilots and air traffic control. Passengers were safely deboarded and shifted to alternative flights to reach their destinations. Both airlines have issued statements saying that they are cooperating fully with the safety probe.
