A major development has taken place in the Indian aviation sector. Indian company Apogee Aerospace has signed a partnership agreement with Australian firm Amphibian Aerospace Industries (AAI). This deal is worth 3500 crore rupees. Under this agreement, India will receive 15 special aircraft known as “Albatross 2.0”. These planes are unique because they have the ability to take off and land on both solid ground and water surfaces. The deal was announced on February 5, 2026.

What are the key details of this agreement?

Apogee Aerospace has placed a confirmed order for 15 Albatross 2.0 aircraft. The total value of this purchase is 3500 crore rupees. These aircraft are designed to carry between 19 to 28 passengers. Apart from buying the planes, the company is also investing in local infrastructure. Apogee will invest an additional 500 crore rupees to set up a manufacturing unit for tail sections in India. This facility will also handle maintenance, repair, and overhaul tasks.

When will these planes arrive in India?

The timeline for the arrival of these aircraft has been set. The first Albatross 2.0 aircraft is expected to land in India within 18 to 24 months. Wing Commander (Retd) MVN Sai, Chairman of Apogee Aerospace, mentioned that this step will help in regional connectivity. The company will also work on training and simulation centers to support these operations. These planes are certified by international agencies like FAA and EASA.
