This article provides details about the new LPG subsidy for eligible customers under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
The Central Government has announced a new subsidy for LPG cylinders, bringing some relief to many households facing rising costs. This discount is especially beneficial for women from low-income families who have been using traditional cooking methods.
Now, eligible customers will receive a direct discount of Rs 300 when they buy a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder. However, this benefit is only for those registered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). If you are not registered, you will have to pay the full price for the cylinder.
Currently, over 12 crore people are part of this scheme, with more than 1.75 crore beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh alone. For example, in Delhi, the regular price of a gas cylinder is around Rs 853, but Ujjwala beneficiaries will pay only Rs 553 after the subsidy. In Lucknow, the cylinder costs about Rs 890, and beneficiaries will pay Rs 590.
Some important points about the subsidy include: The government will provide Rs 300 for up to 9 cylinders each year. This is an increase from the previous subsidy of Rs 200 on 12 cylinders. Beneficiaries must pay the full amount at the time of purchase, and the subsidy will be transferred directly to their bank account.
If you are living below the poverty line and want to benefit from this scheme, you can apply at your nearest gas agency or through the official Ujjwala Yojana website. Required documents include an Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, and Bank Account Passbook.
