Work is moving fast at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to turn Pier-C at Terminal 3 into an international wing. This change is part of a plan to handle the growing number of passengers flying abroad. Currently, T-3 handles about 67,000 to 68,000 international travelers every day. Once the work is done by March 2026, the capacity for international passengers will go up by 50 percent, allowing the airport to manage over 30 million travelers a year.

Flight Shifts and Terminal Changes
To make space for this expansion, many domestic flights are moving out of Terminal 3. Air India has already shifted 60 domestic flights to Terminal 2 on October 26, 2025. Air India Express has also moved its domestic operations to Terminal 1. Inside T-3, the passenger bridge is now split to manage the crowd better:
- Domestic Passengers: Now turn left for Gates 37–62.
- International Passengers: Now turn right towards Gates 27–36 and the new Pier-C area.
- New Counters: Old domestic security areas are now converted into immigration counters.
New Baggage Rules and Fee Updates
Travelers coming back to India have good news regarding baggage rules. From February 2, 2026, the duty-free allowance for Indian residents has increased from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. Foreign tourists can now bring items worth ₹25,000 tax-free. However, flying might get expensive as a proposal to increase the User Development Fee (UDF) is under review. If approved, domestic fees could jump from ₹129 to ₹1,261, and international fees from ₹650 to ₹6,356.
