The Delhi Cabinet has officially approved a new welfare scheme to provide financial assistance for LPG cylinders. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired the meeting on Tuesday and cleared the proposal. This decision comes as a fulfillment of a major promise made during the 2025 Assembly elections. Under this scheme, families with ration cards will receive money for two cylinders every year. The government aims to release the first installment before the upcoming Holi festival in March.
How much money will families get?
The amount of money transferred will depend on whether the family is already getting a subsidy from the Central Government. The current market price of a domestic cylinder in Delhi is ₹853. The money will be sent directly to the bank account of the head of the family through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- General Families: Households that do not get the Ujjwala subsidy will receive the full market price of ₹853 per cylinder.
- Ujjwala Beneficiaries: Families under the PMUY scheme already get a ₹300 subsidy from the Center. The Delhi government will give them the remaining ₹553 per cylinder.
Who is eligible for this scheme?
This benefit is available to all 1.75 million families in Delhi who hold a valid ration card. This includes migrant workers and families who use Piped Natural Gas (PNG). The government wants to ensure that everyone gets equal support regardless of the fuel they use.
A very important rule is that you do not need to buy or refill a cylinder to get this money. The cash will be credited automatically during the festive months of Holi and Diwali. The government has already sanctioned ₹242.77 crore for the first phase. Officials are currently checking the beneficiary list to remove fake names so that only genuine people get the help.
