If you live in Northwest Delhi, you might want to use that bucket of water very carefully today. Residents in over 15 localities are waking up to dry taps this Saturday, January 17, following a major disruption at the Haiderpur Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has confirmed that a damaged main pipeline has forced a temporary shutdown, leaving several neighborhoods in Rohini, Rithala, and Badli without supply for the next 24 hours.
Is Your Neighborhood Affected? Check the List
The impact of this pipeline damage is widespread, specifically hitting the Rithala and Rohini assembly constituencies. According to the DJB, the following areas will not receive water supply today:
- Rohini Sectors: Sector-15, Sector-16, Sector-17, Sector-18, and Sector-19.
- Residential Colonies: Sardar Colony, Amar Jyoti Colony, Suraj Park, Raja Vihar, and Prashant Vihar.
- Villages & Industrial Areas: Shahabad Daulatpur Village, Samaypur, Badli Village, Sirsapur, and Badli Industrial Area (Phases 1, 2, and 3).
If your home falls within these zones or the immediately surrounding areas, you are advised to store whatever water remains and manage consumption strictly until Sunday.
Why the Sudden Cut and When Will Water Return?
The disruption stems from a technical breakdown in a massive 700mm to 800mm diameter main pipeline originating from the Haiderpur WTP. Officials report that the damage occurred deep underground, making the repair process technically challenging and time-consuming.
Repair teams are currently working on a war footing to fix the breach. While the work is moving fast, the DJB estimates it will take approximately 24 hours to resolve completely. Residents can expect the water supply to normalize by the morning of Sunday, January 18. The Jal Board has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the public during this unexpected outage.
