Commuters in Gurugram are set to experience better driving conditions soon. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has officially released a fund of approximately 50 crore rupees to transform three of the city’s busiest routes. Under this new project, MG Road, Hamilton Court Road, and Vyapar Kendra Road will be developed as ‘Model Roads’. The authority has set a deadline of March 31, 2026, to complete all civil and finishing works.

Major Changes in Traffic Flow and Road Width

The biggest update for daily drivers is the change in traffic patterns. Currently, the Hamilton Court and Vyapar Kendra roads operate on a one-way system. After the revamp, these roads will be converted into two-way (bidirectional) routes to ease congestion. The GMDA is also widening these roads to handle more traffic.

According to the plan, the existing 15-meter wide roads (4-lane) will be expanded to 18 meters, making them 6-lane roads. Official reports state that about 75% of the civil work is already complete. The remaining work involves shifting electrical infrastructure and final touches.

Budget Allocation and Smart Features

The total budget of 50 crore rupees has been divided to ensure focused development on each stretch. The authority is not just widening roads but also upgrading the technology used for traffic management.

  • Hamilton Court Road: 20 Crore rupees allocated.
  • Vyapar Kendra Road: 20 Crore rupees allocated.
  • MG Road (IFFCO Chowk to Golf Course Road): 10 Crore rupees allocated.

Once completed, these model roads will have smart enforcement systems. Manual checking by traffic police will be replaced by full CCTV surveillance and automatic e-challan systems. The roads will also feature new lane markings, zebra crossings with pedestrian signals, and digital information boards.
