The Union Government has announced a massive boost for the Indian Railways in the Budget 2026-27 with a record allocation of ₹2.78 lakh crore. How much money did each state get?
The central government has increased the railway budget significantly for several states to support infrastructure growth. States like Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have received the highest shares to complete railway tracks and station upgrades. This funding is much higher compared to the average annual budget provided between 2009 and 2014.

What are the new major railway projects?
This budget not only provides money but also brings new high-speed corridors and upgrades. Telangana will get three high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad to Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Tamil Nadu is also set to get two bullet train corridors. In West Bengal, a new high-speed rail line has been sanctioned between Varanasi and Siliguri. Punjab has already achieved 100 percent railway electrification and is upgrading 30 stations under the Amrit Station Scheme.
