The Ministry of Railways has released the detailed budget data for all states following the Union Budget 2026–27 presentation. As of February 4, 2026, the government has allocated a record capital expenditure of ₹2,93,030 crore for the railway sector. This massive funding focuses on safety upgrades, new tracks, and high-speed corridors. The officials stated that this year sees the highest-ever allocation for states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh to speed up infrastructure work.

State-wise Budget Allocation for 2026–27

The central government has distributed funds based on the progress of land acquisition and project speeds in each state. New Corridors and Safety Projects

Apart from state funds, the ministry has approved several strategic projects to improve connectivity across the country. A major highlight is the new underground rail corridor at the Chicken’s Neck area to secure all-weather connectivity for the North-East region. The government also gave the green signal for seven new high-speed routes to reduce travel time significantly between major cities.

  • Mumbai to Pune: Travel time will reduce to just 48 minutes with the new high-speed link.
  • Delhi to Varanasi: Passengers can cover this distance in 3 hours and 50 minutes.
  • Kavach 5.0 System: ₹1,20,389 crore is set aside for safety works, including installing the automatic train protection system on 40,000 km of tracks by 2030.
  • Freight Corridor: A new dedicated freight line connecting Dankuni to Surat will help move goods faster and increase rail cargo share to 45%.
