On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the Shalimar Bagh constituency to inaugurate multiple civic projects. The focus of these initiatives is to improve the condition of roads, drains, and parks in the AC and SD blocks. The CM stated that these works aim to provide a safer and more dignified living environment for the local residents while preparing the area for better monsoon management.
What are the key infrastructure upgrades?
The government has approved the construction of RMC roads and RCC drains specifically for the SD (C) Block. To tackle the old problem of waterlogging, a new drain will be built connecting SD (C) Block to the LD Kohat Metro Station. This is expected to offer a permanent solution for rainwater drainage. Additionally, road strengthening will be done using dense carpeting technology to ensure durability.
Which parks and facilities are getting a makeover?
Residents in the AC Block will see significant improvements in their local green spaces. The administration has started development work in Nehru Park, Apna Park, and Central Park. The upgrades include:
- Park Amenities: Construction of new walkways, walking tracks, and boundary walls.
- New Parking: A surface parking facility will be constructed in AC Block to manage vehicle congestion.
- Block Upgrades: Paving and beautification work will cover AD, AJ, AL, AE, and AF blocks.
How will the government speed up these works?
In a move to cut down delays, CM Rekha Gupta has increased the financial limit of the Municipal Commissioner. The commissioner can now approve projects worth up to ₹50 crore, a significant jump from the earlier ₹5 crore limit. This administrative change is intended to bypass multi-layered approvals and ensure that civic amenities reach the public faster.
