The healthcare system in South Delhi is getting a major upgrade. The government has decided to open two new hospitals and expand the capacity of two existing ones. This initiative will add 736 beds to the area, providing huge relief to residents who currently depend on distant hospitals like AIIMS and Safdarjung for treatment. Recent announcements in February 2026 confirm that budget provisions and new rules are being implemented to ensure these facilities start functioning fully.

New Facilities at Sarita Vihar and Mehrauli

The Sarita Vihar Hospital, with a capacity of 336 beds, is preparing for operations. While the building was ready earlier, a dispute over underground parking caused delays. Now, advisors have been appointed to solve the issue, and the hospital is likely to run on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In Mehrauli, the government is upgrading the existing facility into a full-service hospital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently inaugurated projects worth ₹135 crore for the area, prioritizing the completion of this 100-bed medical center.

Major Upgrades for Existing Hospitals

Two older hospitals are also seeing significant changes. The Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Malviya Nagar will be rebuilt completely. It will serve as the South District Hospital with modern trauma care and diagnostic centers. Meanwhile, the Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, which currently focuses on mother and child care, is being converted into a multi-specialty hospital. It will soon offer OPD and emergency services, with better connectivity expected via the Delhi Metro Golden Line by March 2026.
