Mandatory Update Rules for Children

According to Aadhaar regulations, children are required to update their biometrics at two specific ages. The first update is mandatory when a child turns 5 years old, and the second update is required at the age of 15. At these stages, fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs are captured or updated. If these updates are missed, the Aadhaar card may become inactive, leading to issues with authentication during competitive exams like NEET and JEE.

Free Update Window and Fees

UIDAI typically charges ₹125 for biometric updates outside of specific free periods. However, a special waiver is currently in place. Updates are free for children between 7 and 15 years of age until September 30, 2026. Under normal rules, the service is always free for children aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years. Parents can utilize school camps or visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras to complete this process.
