The Delhi government has taken strict action against negligence in the water supply department. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma ordered the immediate suspension of four Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials late Thursday evening. This decision came after the Minister conducted surprise inspections at zonal offices and found serious irregularities, including the supply of contaminated water and staff absence during duty hours.

Which officials have been suspended?

During the surprise visit to areas like Rajendra Nagar, Kanhiya Nagar, and Ashok Vihar on January 29, the Minister received many complaints from local residents. People reported that they were getting dirty water in their homes and officials were often not available at their seats to help.

Residents also claimed that their phone calls to the offices were ignored. Taking these complaints seriously, the Minister ordered action against the following officials:

  • Satish Kumar – Zonal Revenue Officer (ZRO), Kanhiya Nagar
  • Rani Bhatt – Zonal Revenue Officer (ZRO), Ashok Vihar
  • Jatinder Kumar – Zonal Revenue Officer (ZRO), Rajendra Nagar
  • Surendra Singh – Assistant Section Officer (ASO), Kanhiya Nagar

What are the new orders for clean water?

To prevent water contamination issues like the recent tragedy in Indore, the Delhi government has issued new strict guidelines. The Water Minister stated that accountability is non-negotiable and officials must solve public grievances on time. DJB has been ordered to prioritize inspections where drinking water pipelines run close to sewer lines.

Dedicated teams are now being deployed for round-the-clock monitoring in high-density areas. The department will also conduct periodic audits to identify and repair leaks immediately. Senior officials have been directed to start formal departmental proceedings against the suspended staff to ensure this negligence is not repeated.
